For member districts, the Lake County Educational Service Center provides leadership, consultation and support for the design, implementation, evaluation and coordination of district gifted and talented services and programs through a Gifted Coordinator.
Our mission is to promote and support districts in providing a continuum of high quality services for gifted and talented students throughout their K-12 educational experience.
WE WILL PROVIDE THIS SUPPORT THROUGH THE FOLLOWING PROFESSIONAL SERVICES:
- Targeted professional development in areas of identified need which may include:
- Characteristics and Identification of gifted students (including underrepresented populations)
- Best practices for instruction of gifted / talented students
- Federal and State Legislation
- Data driven instruction
- Strategies for curriculum differentiation
- Review and revision of policy and procedures (Identification, Service, Acceleration)
- Data analysis for program and instructional planning
- Development of criteria for service and service options based on district gifted population and their needs
- Curriculum development and materials selection
- Assistance with EMIS data entry and annual gifted reports for ODE
2007-2008 GIFTED DEPARTMENT
- Development of a learning community for teachers of gifted (See our blog link)
- Development of local opportunities for above level assessment through Midwest Academic Talent Search
- Biotechnology Module and extensions for 5th grade gifted in collaboration with Porter Science Center
- Provision of web resources for teachers of gifted
- Quarterly Gifted e-newsletter for administrators and teachers
