Description:

These trainings are offered for teachers, any and all school staff, school counselors, social workers, and administrators in order to provide basic education and information about LGBTQ+ youth. 


Topic: Creating a Culture of Belonging: Developing an LGBTQ Welcoming Classroom 

This session will give you a better understanding of how to create an inclusive and accepting classroom for LGBTQ students.

Objectives:

  • Understand how inclusive and accepting classroom environments lower bullying rates for LGBTQ students

  • Recognize the influence of school environments and recognize risk factors and how they impact LGBTQ youth

    • Examples of Risk Factors

      • Bullying

      • Suicide

      • Self Harm

      • Social Isolation

      • Lack of Education as a result of the aforementioned

  • Identifying the protective factors for positive school environments

    • Examples of Protective Factors

      • Inclusion

      • Belonging

      • Support System of Staff and Peers that would minimize risk factors
