Successful Mobile Dentistry Event: Collaboration in Action to Serve Students!

The mobile dentistry event in Fairport Harbor Exempted Village Schools was a resounding success, serving 48 students with preventative dental services, fluoride varnish, sealants, and referrals for further care. Six students received free care through grants, addressing barriers for uninsured families. Special thanks go to Mrs. Heidi Elmore for initiating this project, Fairport Harbor Superintendent Mr. Bill Billington for hosting, and the collaborative efforts of Fairport, Perry, ESCWR, and Ohio Dental Outreach staff. The positive feedback from students, who left with dental reports, stickers, and toothbrushes, highlights the event’s impact. This effort exemplifies teamwork and dedication to serving students. Thank you to all who contributed!
Kenston's Annual Veteran's Day Program

Kenston’s Timmons Elementary Hosts Annual Veterans Day Program

On November 8, 2024, Timmons Elementary School in Kenston held its annual Veterans Day program, a heartwarming tradition where the Third Grade class honors local veterans for their service. The students performed a selection of patriotic songs and recited citations, expressing their gratitude and respect for those who have served our country.

Following the program, area veterans shared their personal stories with the students. They spoke about their military branch, rank, roles, and motivations for serving. Among the speakers were Steve Remias, a Board member of the Educational Service Center of the Western Reserve, and his wife, Marlene. Mr. Remias served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) from 1962 to 1972, including during the Vietnam War. Mrs. Remias served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army, assigned to the 135th Military Police Unit.

The Timmons Elementary staff and students did an outstanding job organizing this meaningful event, providing a platform for veterans to share their histories and inspire future generations. The 12 veterans who spoke offered thoughtful stories and valuable insights into military life and the sacrifices they made for our nation.

At the Educational Service Center of the Western Reserve, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all veterans, not just on Veterans Day but every day. Thank you for your service and dedication to our country.
